Yep, we are contributors and a working example of PostgreSQL solving the world's important data challenges (wait for upcoming customer announcements of near petabyte systems).

Granted we've done so with modified product, but we retain compatibility through interfaces and share code as much as possible.  From my viewpoint the relationship is symbiotic between PostgreSQL and Greenplum.

Its indirect for sure but it is there. Greenplum for example is a major
sponsor of the current proposal for the new partitioning features coming
up in 8.4.
