Looks like Peter has already eliminated the need for it for 7.1 ;-).
What remains to discuss is just whether we want it as a contrib item
in 7.0.3.

As several people mentioned, it's harmless enough in contrib.  I'm
mainly objecting on principle --- this should've been done with more
attention to protocol.
