I have discussed the idea of contributing our Win32 work to the PostgreSQL project with management. We have also converted all of the utilities (initdb, psql, pg_dump, pg_restore, pg_id, pg_passwd, etc.) Management is (rightfully) concerned about recouping the many thousands of dollars invested in the Win32 conversion. I pointed out that future versions would contain our enhancements and therefore benefit us directly. I pointed out that maintenance is 80% of the cost of a software system and a world-wide team of good programmers would be maintaining the code for all to benefit. And last but not least, good computer Kharma. ;-) They will have to cogitate over it a bit, I think. If they agree, I will make a file with our source tree available on an ftp site. > -----Original Message----- > From: Bruce Momjian [mailto:pgman@candle.pha.pa.us] > Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 1:48 PM > To: Dann Corbit > Cc: Tom Lane; PostgreSQL-development > Subject: Re: [HACKERS] Open 7.3 items > > > > If you can contribute it, I think it would be valuable to the > two other > Win32 projects that are working on porting the 7.3 code to Win32. > > I don't think they will have any code ready for 7.3 but they > may have a > few pieces they want to get in to make their 7.3 patching job easier, > like renaming macros or variables or something. > > > -------------------------------------------------------------- > ------------- > > Dann Corbit wrote: > > > -----Original Message----- > > > From: Tom Lane [mailto:tgl@sss.pgh.pa.us] > > > Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 9:50 PM > > > To: Bruce Momjian > > > Cc: PostgreSQL-development > > > Subject: Re: [HACKERS] Open 7.3 items > > [snip] > > > > > > Win32 - timefame? > > > > I may be able to contribute the Win32 stuff we have done here.
