== PostgreSQL Weekly News - Jan 1st 2003 == Light activity over the holidays, but one important change that is easy to do on existing servers is the change in default free space map settings for all future versions. To make this change on an existing server, simply change max_fsm_relations to 1000 (not needed if your already set more than this) and restart your server. This requires a little bit more memory consumption, but the benefits in server maintenance are worth it. The change is mostly due to Philip Warner's research, if you want more details there is good information archived in the mailing lists. == PostgreSQL Product News == Dragon Breath First Public Build 27.12.2002 Released (A PHP/XSLT Framework Using PostgreSQL Stored Procedures) http://dragonbreath.swordlord.com/ Courier-IMAP 1.6.2 Released http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/ GNUmedArchive 25.12.2002 Released http://freshmeat.net/projects/gnumedarchive/ == PostgreSQL In the News == Free Software at Rosenzweig and Maffia http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=6534&mode=thread&order=0 == Upcoming Events == PostgreSQL Training : Atlanta, Georgia, United States: January 20-24 Bruce Momjian will be giving a 4.5-day training class at the Big Nerd Ranch. http://www.bignerdranch.com/Classes/Postgresql.html Linux.Conf.Au : Perth, Australia : January 22-25 Gavin Sherry will be providing a detailed overview of PostgreSQL, and be running a BoF as well. http://www.linux.conf.au http://www.linux.conf.au/abstracts.cgi?id=T45 Replication Meeting : Tokyo, Japan: February 1, 5-7 Bruce will be involved in a replication discussion with the Japan PostgreSQL Users Group (JPUG) on February 1 (date tentative): http://www.postgresql.jp/ Bruce will also be speaking at the NET&COM conference and in the SRA booth. http://expo.nikkeibp.co.jp/netcom/index.html == PostgreSQL Weekly News - Jan 1st 2003 == Don't forget to read Elein Mustain's Weekly Summary of the PostgreSQL General Mailing List http://www.varlena.com/GeneralBits/ On the Web: http://www.postgresql.org http://advocacy.postgresql.org
