The problem is that there has never been a way to unsubscribe from this mailing list. I think some folks over-optimisticallythought that with the advent of a new platform, unsubscribing would now work, hence the flurry of unsubscriberequests, and the following realization that nothing has changed, except maybe for the length of sentences usedto describe the situation. -----Original Message----- From: Eric P. No, that's just people trying to unsubscribe who missed the note at https://www.postgresql.org/message-id/20170614154313.GI3151%40tamriel.snowman.net.
To unsubscribe, go to https://lists.postgresql.org/manage.
If you can't remember your password for that one, then you can send an email to pgadmin-support-unsubscriber@lists.postgresql.org and it should return you a token to unsubscribe with.

There has always been a way to unsubscribe from the mailing list. It was clearly described on both the PostgreSQL and pgAdmin websites. Both do now need to be updated for the new system (and will be soon), but Stephen did provide instructions for managing subscriptions when he send the email warning of the migration: https://www.postgresql.org/message-id/20170614154313.GI3151%40tamriel.snowman.net -- Dave Page Blog: http://pgsnake.blogspot.com Twitter: @pgsnake EnterpriseDB UK: http://www.enterprisedb.com The Enterprise PostgreSQL Company

I also was thinking it was weird that there were 3 same-looking "unsubscribe" list posts from 3 different people all back to back. Usually when someone takes this naive action its just 1 person at a time. --Darren Duncan

There has always been a way to unsubscribe from the mailing list. It
was clearly described on both the PostgreSQL and pgAdmin websites.
Both do now need to be updated for the new system (and will be soon),
but Stephen did provide instructions for managing subscriptions when
he send the email warning of the migration:

It's also worth noticing that every single email contains both a web link to unsubscribe and a mail link to unsubscribe, in the List-Unsubscribe header. Some mail programs are smart enough to show that one as a direct option and some are not, but the header is always there and the links should be clickable.
It's also worth noticing that every single email contains both a web link to unsubscribe
Not sure about the header but I'm not seeing the web link in the body of the email
I just checked a -general email and the original message did not include the footer:
--
Sent via pgsql-general mailing list (pgsql-general@postgresql.org)
To make changes to your subscription:
But subsequent replies did - kinda-sorta...
I'm using Gmail.

That's correct, it's in the header only. We had to stop adding new MIME parts to messages because it caused a large amount of the list email to be considered spam by major providers. The headers is a standard way to do it. This was outlined in the email Stephen sent about the migration.
gmail in particular sometimes shows an unsubscribe link directly based on the header and sometimes now. And they don't document exactly what the rules are to show them -- they document a minimum set (which we do now fulfill, but didn't use to), but this set is not a guarantee for gmail to actually show the link. For example in this thread the original email (the one just containing unsubscribe) *does* include a link to unsubscribe. But a fair amount of others don't. (Headers are still visible of course, but not without clicking through)
